All the President’s Men|Deep Throat: The Outer Edges

This is one of my all-time favorite films. In this scene, Bob Woodward (Robert Redford) presses Deep Throat for answers to the June 17, 1972 Watergate break-in. Deep Throat then goes on to expose a vast conspiracy ranging from CIA to FBI to the Justice Department all the way up to the highest levels of the White House including President Richard Nixon. Bob then goes to Carl Bernstein’s (Dustin Hoffman) apartment to explain that his place is bugged and their lives are in danger for knowing too much and getting too close to publicly exposing the conspiracy.

@oneputtsteven your sentiments seem spot-on, but woodward did extensive bush/cheney coverage, most of it was supportive, until the end. e.g. when he released state of denial-his ultimate condemnation of the administration, in 2007 maybe? interesting book. but i don’t think it excused woodward’s general sign-off on bush, which he gave to the admin after 9/11. seemed like everybody but hs thompson, zinn, chomsky, vidal and kucinich were happy to participate in post 9-/1 revisionist state religion.

This movie was horrible. Good idea, good cast, great performances… but the absolutel worst, confusing script, cinematography and a very weak take on the subject matter.

I do like this film, it gave a very accurate truthful insight into the whole event of “Watergate.” Not even so much a “entertaining thriller” or however we look at this film. But at that time this film was really actually telling American people exactly what was going on. A Totally different era, which is why we could never have anything like this happen today.

  15. bailinnumberguy says:

Even w/ the dark lighting it’s clear who Deep Throat was: Hal Holbrook

  16. oneputtsteven says:

One of the all-time great scenes from one of the all-time great movies.

I would love to know what Woodward and Bernstein could dig up on Bush/Cheney except these days nobody gives a damn anymore because their told it’s to protect the country which translated means if you don’t allow us to do this illegal sh*t your gonna die. Too bad the American people fall for this crud.

  17. Stranglehold432 says:
